Cricketers have Superstitions or Stupid addictions

Most cricketers have superstitions. The hunger for victory in a cricket match, the fear of failure, the desperation to win, all these sentiments are combined and lets the human mind get conditioned over a period of time. Hence, habits emerge and when those habits are unique or away from the norm they are termed as superstitions. And if you try to comprehend superstitions, you realize more often than not they are nothing but stupid addictions.

Cricket has a rich history of superstitions; the "nelsons": when the score is 111, 222 (double nelson) it is considered unlucky. Who can forget the image of a fiery red-faced David Shepherd leaping off the ground on one foot to counter the nemesis.

More common rituals are: wearing the left pad first, kissing the bat while batting, making sure you take strike first etc. Former England skipper Mike Atherton never gave an interview, if he stayed not out overnight during a test match. Neil McKenzie of South Africa makes sure that his toilet seats are closed before leaving from the dressing room and he would strike the bat to the ceiling of the dressing room before every innings. Mark Ramprakash would always chew the same piece of chewing gum throughout an innings, and stick it to the top of his bat if he was not out overnight. He once batted for 10 hours, spread over three days, which must have left him with a pretty tired jaw. The "red handkerchief/cloth" has a sacred place in cricketing history as the favourite accessory whether it was Steve Waugh, Jimmy Amarnath or more recently Virendra Sehwag. All of them considered it their lucky charm and carried it on the cricket field. Interestingly all of them are right handed batsman, though with distinct batting styles.

Hot chips may cause cancer

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that potato crisps, Fried or roasted potatoes, coffee and cereal-based products, including biscuits and toasted bread can cause cancer. Experts have said that a chemical created when starchy foods are cooked at high temperatures has been proven to cause this deadly disease. Following laboratory tests in animals this year, a joint WHO and United Nations expert committee on food additives agreed there was evidence that the chemical acrylamide caused cancer. The authority has acknowledged there is a need for ongoing research into health impacts of acrylamide in food. Acrylamide was discovered in foods by Swedish scientists in 2002.

How to protect your computer

if we are accessing internet on our  computer then there is always a security threat to our computer. The immediate question that comes to our mind is how to protect our computer from these daily security threats. As per a online Security Expert there are three basic steps need to taken to ensure that computer is protected from security attacks and viruses. Lets see these three steps.

1) Firewall:- A firewall is a part of a computer system or network that is designed to block unauthorized access while permitting authorized communications. It is a device or set of devices which is configured to permit or deny computer applications based upon a set of rules and other criteria. So Its better if you install Firewall on your computer. These days some operating systems have built in Firewalls like Windows 7.  There are some add on firewalls which can be downloaded from the internet.

2) System Updates:- Its always advisable to use genuine ( License)  windows operating  system. Pirated version comes at cheap price but always have some limitations like you will not get daily updates. Daily updates from Microsoft site are important for keeping computer safe.

3) Antivirus:- Antivirus software is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware including computer viruses, Trojan horses, worms  Such programs may also prevent and remove adware, spyware and other forms of malware. There are so many antivirus softwares available in the market. Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, Bit Defender 2010 , Norton Internet Security and McAfee Internet Security 2010 are the most popular and leading antivirus softwares in the world.

Peepali Live - A must watch Film

Peepali Live is a small budget film which is produced by none other than the perfectionist Aamir Khan. Natha a poor farmer from Peepli village in the heart of rural India is about to lose his plot of land due to an unpaid government loan. The solution to this  problem is the very same government's program that aids the families of indebted farmers who have committed suicide. As a means of survival Farmer Natha can choose to die!!! His brother is happy to push him towards this unique 'honor' but Natha is reluctant. Local elections are around the corner and what might've been another unnoticed event turns into a 'cause celebre' with everyone wanting a piece of the action. Political bigwigs, high ranking bureaucrats, local henchmen and the ever zealous media descend upon sleepy Peepli to stake their claim. The question on everyone's lips "Will he or Won't he?" As the mania escalates what will be the fate of Farmer Natha; nobody seems to care how he really feels?

After 3 Idiots Aamir Khan comes with this film which seems to a master piece though he has just produced the film. This is a film one should not miss. So wait for 13th August 2010.

Your Facebook profile information leaked

The personal details of 100 million Facebook users have been collected and published on the Internet by a security consultant. A list has been compiled by Ron Bowles, who used a piece of code to scan Facebook profiles, and collect data not hidden by the user’s privacy settings. The downloadable file contains the URL of every searchable Facebook user’s profile, their name and unique ID, and Bowles said he published the data to highlight privacy issues.

On Pirate Bay, the world’s biggest file-sharing website, the list was being distributed and downloaded by more than 1,000 users, and it has spread rapidly across the net. Facebook issued a statement saying the information in the list was already freely available online. “People who use Facebook own their information and have the right to share only what they want, with whom they want, and when they want,” the BBC quoted the statement.

“In this case, information that people have agreed to make public was collected by a single researcher and already exists in Google, Bing, other search engines, as well as on Facebook. No private data is available or has been compromised,” the statement concluded.

But Simon Davies from the watchdog Privacy International said Facebook had been given ample warning that something like this would happen and that it should have taken measures to prevent it.

“It is inconceivable that a firm with hundreds of engineers couldn’t have imagined a trawl of this magnitude and there's an argument to be heard that Facebook have acted with negligence,” he said.

Davies added that the trawl of data fed into “the confusion of the privacy settings”, and that the default settings should be changed. “This highlights the argument for a higher level of privacy and proves the case for default nondisclosure,” he stated. “There are going to be a lot of angry people right now who would be wondering who has their data and what they should do,” he added

How to ease computer eye strain

If you use a computer more than two hours a day, you could be suffering from Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

Here are some quick tips to keep eye strain at bay:-

1) Location of computer screen:- Basically, the computer screen should be 15 to 20 degrees below eye level (about 4 or 5 inches) as measured from the centre of the screen and 20 to 28 inches from the eyes.

2) Blink often:- When looking at a computer or hand-held digital device, it''s common for you to blink two to three times less than you normally would.

3) The 20/20/20 rule:- When spending long periods in front of a digital device, every 20 minutes, spend 20 seconds looking at something 20 feet away to allow your eyes to rest.

4) Ensure proper lighting:- To help ease the strain on your eyes, keep bright lighting overhead to a minimum and position your desk lamp to shine on your desk, and not at you. Position your computer screen in a way that reduces reflections and glare from windows or overhead lights.

How to Extend the Life of Your Car

It is said that A car is often the second biggest investment a consumer makes next to a home. With rising Gas prices and very costly repairs, the last thing you want to worry about is if and when your car is going to break down. Here's how to protect your Car.
1) Wash your car:- Road salt, sludge and pollution can lead to costly body work. Without regular cleaning, you can start to notice rust on the bottom of your doors within four years. Another three to four years and the corrosion will creep to underbody components, like brake lines. It can cost thousands in rust-related repairs if you neglect to wash your car, especially near ocean/gulf shorelines where the road sand or morning dew might be salty.

2) Keep the front end aligned:- If you notice your car shaking while driving at high speeds (not while braking - shuddering while braking indicates warped rotors), or if your tread is wearing unevenly, then you may need an alignment. This is also key to extending the life of your tires and will keep the tread even for increased safety.

3) Change the air filter:- This is something you can do easily at home without using tools, and should be done approximately every 12 thousand miles. You can buy a matching filter at nearly any auto parts store and your owner's manual will show you where your air filter is located. A dirty, dusty filter can lower gas mileage.

4) Maintain proper tyre pressure:- Under-inflated tyres mean extra rolling resistance, which means your engine has to work harder to move the vehicle. your car uses more fuel and tyre wear out faster, too.

5) Rotate the tyres:- Changing tire position reduces uneven wear and tear on the tread, thus extending the life of the tires. The recommended rotation cycle is twice a year or every 6,000 miles. Rotate them diagonally - front right to rear left and front left to rear right. However, this pattern can change depending on the drivetrain of the vehicle, and the type of tire. Your vehicle manual will contain detailed rotation information. Keep in mind some tires (especially on sports cars) are directional and are meant to spin only one way. They will have a large arrow on the sidewall to indicate this.

6) Change oil regularly:- This will improve your gas mileage and protect your engine. The recommended mileage between oil changes is 3,000 - 5,000 miles (or 5000 - 8000 kilometres) or every 3 to 6 months. Doing this could make it possible for your vehicle to attain 200,000 miles. Change the oil filter as well - there is no sense in putting clean oil through a dirty filter, and filters are very cheap and available at any parts store. Please check your service manual, or contact your dealer for your car's specific needs.

7) Flush the fluids every two years: Power steering fluid, and brake fluid, cooling system. Check this timetable against your owner's manual. Newer cars generally allow longer intervals between changes.

Top 3 dirtiest Asian cities

India on its way to become a superpower in the world. Its very shameful to us that 2 big cities from india are in top 3 dirtiest Asian cities. 1st one is Dhaka followed by Mumbai and Delhi.

1) Dhaka: -Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh battles with the constant threat of water pollution. Point to be noted here is that surface water is often thick with disease and pollutants from the use of commercial pesticides. With an estimated 150 million people living in a relatively small area, cleaning up the problem is real tough.

2) Mumbai:- Thanks to Dharavi slum and other slum areas in Mumbai. Indian government has to work quite hard if they want to transform Mumbai back into a burgeoning metropolis. Being financial capital of India there is a Hugh burden on Mumbai to keep it clean and safe.

 3) Delhi:- You'll find just about everything except marine life in New Delhi's Yamuna River. As a matter of fact, garbage and sewage flow freely, creating a rich environment for the growth of water-borne diseases contributing to extremely high rates of infant morbidity.

One week to get that fab figure

An important function or event is round the corner and you feel you are out of shape. Here’s how to tone up in one week.
1) Avoid Salt:- Too much salt makes your body retain water, which makes you puffy around your face and stomach. Go for low-salt breakfast options such as a khichdi . Also, don’t add tablesalt to your food or cooking, avoid salty snacks such as crisps and go easy on processed sauces which are often packed with salt.
2) Ditch Sugar:- Like salt, sugar is a diet baddie. Even though sugary foods – such as boiled sweets and mousses – are often labelled ‘low-fat’, they’re incredibly high in calories. And if you don’t work off the calories by exercising, that sugar gets stored as fat – usually around your stomach and waist. Sugar also increases your hunger. So, ditch the sugar in your tea and also the colas that you gulp down every day. Eat low-sugar snacks instead. Chopped vegetables, for example are rich in fibre, so they’ll keep you fuller for longer and will aid your digestion, which helps to reduce bloating. Alcohol is practically pure sugar, so give that a miss, too. If you drink regularly, you’ll notice the difference after giving it up for a week.
3) Take some supplement:- Fish oil supplements are a great way to shed pounds. A recent study found that volunteers who took them lost, on an average, two kilos over three months without changing their diet or exercise habits. Fish oils are great for helping your body burn fat more efficiently.
4) Swap Tea:- If you want to get in shape fast, ditch your regular cup of tea and go for a fat-burning one instead. Studies show that green tea revs up your metabolism, so aim for several cups a day.
5) Relax:-  Stress really does make you fat. It causes hormones to be released into your body that encourage fat deposits around your waist and stomach.
